That smoldering canine
stalked the platform edge
to edge, head low, almost penitent
in genuflection. Hours upon hours
it padded, it made an examination
of every cobble, from portal
to portal, twice and thrice,
and back and there again.
Its fiery form, graceful beyond
any mortal kenning of such beastly
anatomy. On it snuffled,
sniffing, and then the epiphany:
such a demonic denizen of hell
must find absolute delight
in a place utterly devoid of brimstone.
